Red alert for rain in 13 districts of Tamil Nadu

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Chennai, Kallakurichi, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts of Tamil Nadu. Six teams of NDRF i.e. National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in some parts of Tamil Nadu amid red alert for rain in the state.

According to the Meteorological Department, today apart from Tamil Nadu, there is a possibility of rain in Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Karaikal and other parts of South India. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in these areas till December 7-9. According to the Meteorological Department, a low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm today i.e. around the evening of December 07 and then over north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south by December 8. South West will reach the Bay of Bengal from the coasts of Andhra Pradesh. After this, there will be heavy rains in the areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
