Nollywood actress Funke Akindele is celebrating her colleague, Iyabo Ojo, over her cinema milestone.
Iyabo, a day back, announced that her new movie, The Return of Arinzo, grossed N104.8 million on its opening weekend, becoming the highest-grossing Easter weekend performance, the biggest opening for a Nollywood sequel, and the second-highest opening weekend performance of 2026.
Rejoicing with her, Funke, via her Instagram page, congratulated Iyabo, noting that it is a well-deserved win and proof that excellence always speaks.
She wished Iyabo more records to be broken and greatness to come.
“Congratulations! Queen Mother @iyaboojofespris Highest-grossing movie this weekend! A well-deserved win and proof that excellence always speaks. More records to break, more greatness to come.
FANmily, the return of Arinzo is still showing in all cinemas nationwide”.
Since their reconciliation, the two have struck a close relationship and have been supportive of each other’s milestone.
Earlier this year, when Funke marked the remembrance of her late mother, Iyabo attested to Funke’s mother’s good heart, recalling how she treated Festus and Priscilla when they were little. The mother of two stated that despite her constant fights with Funke, her mother never stopped calling and praying for her.
Last year, when Funke premiered the Behind The Scenes movie, Iyabo, who was one of the cast, shared photos of herself and Funke twinning in the UK as she heavily promoted the movie. Funke appreciated her for the support.
While sharing adorable photos of herself and Iyabo, Akindele described Ojo as her best friend and revealed that they were ready for any party in London.
She had declared Iyabo her Woman Crush Wednesday, praising her craft and describing her as beautiful, stylish, and elegant. The filmmaker said Iyabo’s talent, confidence, and passion always shine through every role she plays.
When Iyabo premiered her movie, Labake Olododo, Funke had given it her stamp of approval. Also, at the movie premiere, she had commended Iyabo, praising the actress for the movie’s aesthetics, visuals and all.
Funke, in an interview, recounted how Iyabo and Sikiratu Sindodo helped her climb the ladder and fought for her during her early career. According to her, she was being stereotyped because of her physical appearance, which many considered ‘ugly’. This led to her breaking down on one of her movie sets, and Iyabo and Sikiratu stood up for her.
In June, Funke gifted Iyabo Ojo a brand-new iPhone 16, after promising to change her Samsung phone.
Recall that Funke Akindele and Iyabo fell out and were at loggerheads for years, after Iyabo dragged Funke when a blogger criticised Toyin Abraham’s movie, The Ghost and The Tout.
In 2022, the two put their beef aside by embracing and exchanging pecks at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award season 8.
