The Anambra State command of the Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will sustain its election security training programme for officers and men of the force ahead of the November 8 governorship election in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Awka, the state capital.
Ikenga said the ongoing training is part of a strategic preparation by the command to ensure a peaceful, credible, and well-secured electoral process.
“In a sustained effort to ensure a peaceful, credible, and well-secured governorship election in Anambra, the Police Command has continued to expose its personnel to intensive election security training and refresher courses,” he said.
According to the statement, the training — organised in partnership with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other stakeholders — cuts across all area commands, divisions, and tactical units of the police.
Ikenga said the sessions focus on professional conduct during elections, crowd management, intelligence sharing, inter-agency collaboration, and the protection of human rights.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to neutrality, professionalism, and integrity throughout the election period.
He explained that the continuous capacity-building sessions were designed to improve operational readiness and ensure the safety of voters, electoral materials, and officials before, during, and after the poll.
“The command remains committed to upholding the principles of neutrality, professionalism, and integrity during the upcoming election,” Orutugu said.
“These training sessions are aimed at improving officers’ preparedness and guaranteeing the safety of voters, electoral materials, and officials.”
The police commissioner also appealed to residents of Anambra State to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with security agencies to guarantee a hitch-free exercise across the state.
“We call on all residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to work with security operatives to ensure a peaceful election,” the statement concluded.
