Galatasaray and Belgium forward, Dries Mertens, has heaped praise on Super Eagles forward, Victor James Osimhen, labelling him as one of the best in world football, Soccernet.ng reports.
The pair played first in Napoli, before reuniting in Galatasaray. However, Mertens was not a part of the Naples squad that lifted the Scudetto in 2023.
Across two clubs and all competitions, Osimhen and Mertens have played 62 games together, winning 40, and drawing 12, accruing 2.13 points per game.

What Mertens said about Osimhen
The former PSV Eindhoven forward was quizzed by Mikel Obi on what Osimhen brings to Galatasaray as a team, and on their relationship outside of the club.
“Victor is one of the top three strikers at the moment, and we’re lucky that he’s playing with us. In this moment, you don’t have many strikers like him around,” the 37-year-old said on the Obi One Podcast.
“We have a good relationship, and that’s why I’m so glad he came here, and I think he can still achieve a lot more if he demands it from himself. The hunger to score every minute, not every game. After one, you have to go for two.
“Istanbul is such a big city, and there are many things to do, so I think it gives him a bit of calm. He lives close to me, and our children are best friends, so it’s nice to see.”
With five league games left to play, Galatasaray are currently five points clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig. Victor Osimhen is leading the race for the league’s golden boot with 22 goals, three above Krzysztof Piatek.
