The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has stated that he reached out to top security officials across the country immediately after the residents in Kurmin Wali village, Kajuru Local Government Area, were abducted.
Speaking on the incident in an interview with BBC Hausa, the governor stated that he has nothing to hide, adding that his primary focus is securing the freedom of the victims.
Sani stated that he has no interest in arguing over how the news of the mass abduction came to light.
He said, “We have nothing to hide about what happened in Kurmin Wali. As soon as the attack happened, I met with all the heads of security agencies at the national level.
“In Kaduna, we do not mix security with politics. We depend on information from the security agencies, and we trust them. They are the first people we call when there is trouble, so condemning them helps no one.”
The attack happened on Sunday when armed men entered Kurmin Wali village. Early reports suggest that more than 170 people may have been taken, causing fear and confusion in the community.
At first, the police and state officials questioned the reports, but the government later confirmed that the attack did take place. However, the exact number of people abducted is yet to be confirmed.
The governor said he is closely following the rescue efforts and has met with key security officials, including the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa; the Director-General of the DSS; and the Inspector-General of Police, to ensure quick action.
He also made it clear that his government will not pay ransom.
“We have a policy. We do not pay ransom,” he said.
Governor Uba Sani called on residents of Kaduna State to support security agencies by sharing useful information, saying security is everyone’s responsibility.
“Government cannot do this alone. People must continue to work with security agencies,” he said.
