The Lagos State Government has reportedly asked TikTok influencer Peller to pay ₦36 million in income tax.
Naijaonpoint reports that Peller, who rose to fame last year, revealed this during a live video with singer Peruzzi.
He said the tax agency approached him with this huge tax bill, which he finds unreasonable given his recent rise and current earnings.
Peruzzi joined the discussion, reminding Peller that paying taxes is a legal obligation for Nigerians and mentioned that his own tax payments exceed what Peller was asked to pay.
The singer advised Peller to clear the tax bill promptly to avoid legal trouble, including possible imprisonment.
“Taskforce said I should pay ₦36 million for tax. I don’t have anything. I just came into the limelight last year,” he lamented.
“Why haven’t you paid your taxes? Do you know you’re supposed to pay tax as a Nigerian? Do you know how much I pay as tax? I won’t mention it here but it’s more than the tax bill they gave you,” Peruzzi said.
Peller, however, insisted that the tax demand was too much and expressed that the government had never supported him in any way through his TikTok activities.
He said the government targeted him because he openly showed off his wealth and disclosed his earnings from TikTok.
Peruzzi suggested that Peller should request more time to arrange payment, but Peller maintained that his income comes mainly from social media, not local Nigerian sources.
