In “Avatar: The Way of Water,” an actor named Filip Geljo plays Aonung, the teenage son of Metkayina leaders Ronal and Tonowari. Geljo, despite his young age seeming to match that of his “Avatar” character, kicked off his acting career eight years prior with a role in a TV movie titled “The Last Chance.” The following year, he portrayed a character named Dan in a drama called “The Waiting Room.” Dan is the son of a character named Jasmin, based on a real-life actor named Jasmin Geljo. As their names suggest — and as the pair discusses in a video interview with Tribute.ca — Jasmin and Filip Geljo are father and son in real life too.
The role that then went on to define Filip Geljo’s career after working with his father on “The Waiting Room” was that of Agent Otto on the educational children’s TV series “Odd Squad.” Geljo is credited with 41 episodes in total between the show’s first two seasons, in addition to both a subsequent film and a sequel series that premiered five years after his “Odd Squad” debut. That follow-up project, titled “Odd Squad: Mobile Unit,” is Geljo’s most recent credit prior to his addition to the “Avatar” universe. According to his list of upcoming work, “Avatar” will keep him plenty busy moving forward, as Aonung is currently a part of both the third and forth “Avatar” movies slated for 2024 and 2026 respectively.
