A member of the National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Oladimeji Fabiyi, has questioned why the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) wants to kill the opposition parties and destroy democracy.
Naijaonpoint reports that Fabiyi slammed the APC while reacting to the revised schedule for the 2027 general election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Recall that INEC chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, had said the release of the timetable for the general election was in line with provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act, 2022, as amended.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Fabiyi said INEC came up with a hasty timetable while opposition parties were unprepared.
According to him, there are many bottlenecks against the opposition, adding that if the APC is confident about delivering the dividends of democracy to Nigerians, it would not want to silence the opposition parties.
He said, “INEC should tell us where they got the timetable from.
“They want to hoodwink us because they see that the opposition are yet to put themselves together. They just want to rush everything and I tell you that it will blow on their faces.
“There’s a lot of bottlenecks against the opposition. If the APC is sure that they have done well and Nigerians are with them, why do they want to kill the opposition and destroy democracy?”
