In a recent interview with Naija FM in Lagos, Afrobeats star Timaya addressed the question of why veteran singer Eedris Abdulkareem lacks respect in the music industry. Timaya attributed this lack of respect to Abdulkareem’s talkative nature.
During the discussion, the host noted, “You and Eedris Abdulkareem are among the artists that people are mostly afraid to confront.” Timaya responded, emphasizing the differences between his personality and Abdulkareem’s.
He stated, “I don’t talk like Eedris. I don’t behave like him. Nobody is afraid of him because he talks too much; he has always been very vocal. I don’t even want people to be afraid of me. I respect myself so that others will respect me.”
Regarding his relationship with Eedris Abdulkareem, Timaya mentioned, “I have never had any problems with Eedris. It was simply a relationship between a boss and an apprentice. I don’t even think he knew my name at that time. I only acknowledged him because he was part of my success story. We haven’t had any reason to communicate. When I was part of his band, he didn’t feel the need to build a relationship with me. When you’re in a position of authority, it’s important to treat those serving you like family, because you never know what the future holds.”
