In a fiery message that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political circles, Terver Shirsha Atsar, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and 2027 aspirant for Ushongo/Kwande Federal Constituency, has issued an emotional call urging Nigerians to reject President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general election.

In an exclusive conversation with AKOMBO AONDONA, the Benue native, a chemical engineer, safety and environmental expert, and grassroots campaigner, didn’t hold back. He said the APC has become a “shenanigan civilian dictatorship” under President Tinubu, and that Nigerians must not repeat past mistakes if the country is to escape persistent underdevelopment and political instability.
Atsar explained that his political journey has always been driven by principle, not convenience. While he once aimed for the governorship of Benue State in 2023, internal party crises in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) pushed him to seek a political home in the ADC, where he says true democracy, accountability, and people‑centred leadership can thrive.
Looking ahead to 2027, Atsar says he is now focused on representing the Ushongo/Kwande Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, driven by deep concerns over persistent poverty, weak policy implementation, and lack of meaningful representation for ordinary Nigerians in decision‑making. He says his vision is not survival politics, but structured development rooted in competence and transparency.
Asked about defections rocking Nigeria’s political landscape, including speculation that Governor Hyacinth Alia and ex‑Governor Gabriel Suswam might join the ADC, Atsar said the party welcomes all who respect its rules and ideology, but warned it is not a “dumping ground for political crises.”
When asked if he might ever join the APC, given the wave of defections, his answer was emphatic: “No.” According to him, the APC under Tinubu has taken bad governance to a new level, suppressing democratic space and promoting tokenism instead of genuine accountability. He warned that the party has become so dominant that it seems to want a one‑party system , something he believes is dangerous for Nigeria’s democratic survival.
On the state of opposition politics in Nigeria today, Atsar said it remains weak, fragmented, and personality‑driven rather than rooted in coherent ideology and policy. Yet he insists strong opposition is essential for accountability, good governance, and the future of Nigerian democracy.
