Why The Help Cast Has Spoken Out Against the Film Since Its Release

The Help, based on Kathryn Stockett's novel of the same name, is almost 13 years old this year. At the time of its release in 2011, the movie became a huge success, earning $216 million at the box office against a $25 million budget. Critics praised the film for its performances, earning it four Academy Award nominations, including two for Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, with latter taking home the prize for Best Supporting Actress. The Help saw a resurgence in popularity in 2020 when it became one of the most viewed films on Netflix. However, this would end up tarnishing its legacy.
