Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the reinstatement of two senior officials earlier suspended from office.
The affected officials are the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Dr Danlami Hayyo, and the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service, Mr Michael Ango.
The recall was made public on Wednesday through an official statement issued by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
However, the minister made it clear that discipline remains non-negotiable within the FCT Administration.
Dr Hayyo was initially suspended after controversy erupted over a leaked memo that allegedly ordered the closure of all government secondary schools in the FCT by November 28, 2025. The memo was said to have been issued by the Director of School Services at the FCT Secondary Education Board, Aishatu Alhassan.
The alleged directive triggered public concern and widespread criticism, especially from parents and education stakeholders.
The FCT Administration later dismissed the memo as unauthorised and insisted that no such decision had been approved or discussed at any level of government.
In response to the incident, Wike ordered the immediate suspension of Dr Hayyo and instructed the Head of Service of the FCT, Mrs Nancy Nathan, to begin disciplinary proceedings against Alhassan in line with civil service regulations.
Mr Ango’s case followed a similar pattern. On December 8, 2025, the minister announced his removal as Acting Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service.
At the time, no official reason was disclosed. Wike only directed that the most senior officer in the agency should take over management pending further decisions.
The development sparked speculation within political and administrative circles in Abuja, with many viewing the actions as part of Wike’s firm approach to governance and accountability.
In the latest statement, Olayinka confirmed that both officials have now been cleared to return to their duties.
He stressed that the reinstatement does not excuse misconduct and warned that any form of indiscipline would attract serious consequences.
“The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reinstated the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo, and the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service, Mr Michael Ango.
“The minister warned that acts of indiscipline will not be tolerated among officials of the FCTA and directed both Dr Hayyo and Mr Ango to resume duty with immediate effect,” the statement read.
