The embattled National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Samuel Anyanwu, has dismissed reports that he plans to leave the party, calling the claims false, baseless, and unwarranted.
Anyanwu assured party members that he remains firmly in the PDP and would not leave the party under any circumstances, even if others did.
He made the declaration while addressing party faithful during a New Year special stakeholders’ meeting held at the PDP secretariat in Owerri, Imo State.
The former federal lawmaker urged members not to allow themselves to be misled by rumours, stressing that he was still committed to the PDP and its ideals.
He said, “Do not allow yourselves to be deceived, confused or misled by anyone. I am still in the PDP, and I will remain in the party until its mandate is achieved.”
Anyanwu also dismissed the growing influence of other political parties, insisting that neither the African Democratic Congress nor the Allied Peoples Party could defeat the PDP in Imo State or at the national level.
Reacting to claims that the party had lost relevance, Anyanwu said such narratives were unfounded.
He said, “Anyone deceiving you or spreading the falsehood that PDP is dead is only suffering from schizophrenia.
“It is only in the PDP that you can find mature party members. Our party is like the old NPP that regarded human beings. Those who claim to be members and leaders of the ruling party are finding it difficult to feed, but in PDP, we are feeding well even when we are not in power.”
In appreciation of the loyalty and dedication of party members, the PDP chieftain distributed gift items to stakeholders, ward, local government and state executives.
He expressed delight that, despite what he described as minor internal wrangling that nearly derailed the party’s vision a few months ago, members in Imo State remained steadfast and committed.
Anyanwu reiterated the need for unity and collective effort to build a strong and formidable PDP in the state.
He also dismissed what he called a gang-up against the PDP in Imo State and across the country, insisting that such forces lacked the capacity to dislodge the party in any electoral contest.
Calling on party leaders and members across the 305 wards in the state, Anyanwu urged them not to be distracted by “the political shenanigans of unstable politicians.”
The meeting was attended by the 27 local government chairmen of the party, women and youth leaders, members of the State Working Committee, South-East leaders, former local government chairmanship candidates, stakeholders and other party faithful.
