Rapper Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in prison in Romania following a drug possession conviction tied to a music festival appearance last year.
The 38-year-old artist, whose real name is Cameron Thomaz, received the sentence on December 18, more than a year after Romanian authorities accused him of possessing cannabis after performing at the Beach, Please! festival in Costinesti in July 2024. The ruling came after prosecutors successfully appealed an earlier penalty.
Khalifa was found guilty of possessing dangerous drugs for personal use without authorization. A lower court in Constanta County initially fined him roughly $830 in April, but prosecutors argued the punishment was too lenient and sought a harsher sentence.
The case stemmed from allegations that Khalifa had more than 18 grams of cannabis and consumed some of it while on stage. At the time, Romania’s organized crime prosecutors said he was found with the substance and smoked a handmade cigarette during the show.
He was charged but not taken into custody.
Shortly after the incident, Khalifa addressed the situation publicly. “Last nights show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage,” he wrote on X. “They were very respectful and let me go.”
Khalifa and girlfriend Aimee Aguilar welcomed their first child together that same month. Khalifa is also father to son Sebastian, whom he shares with ex-wife Amber Rose.
