WOLVES have intensified their pursuit of Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare and have begun negotiations with Genk, according to reports.

European transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported today that Wolves are in talks with both the Belgian club and Arokodare’s team, with a deal looking likely before next week’s transfer deadline.

Belgian outlet HNL added that Wolves are aware that Arokodare, who was Jupiler Pro League top scorer last season, will cost around €25m.

The 24-year-old Nigeria international has been linked with several clubs this summer, with AC Milan and Napoli among the sides said to have been interested.

Arokodare was originally scheduled to start for Genk in their UEFA Europa League play-off second leg against Lech Poznan on Thursday, but the situation is such that he may not play again as all risks are being avoided, HNL reported.

The outlet added that Genk set an asking price of €25m this transfer window and are still targeting a similar figure (including bonuses), with both clubs likely to reach an agreement.

Arokodare is expected to generate more than his predecessor and compatriot Paul Onuachu.

The former Golden Boot winner moved to Southampton for €18 million on Deadline Day in January 2023.
