A yet to be identified woman was reportedly forced to bathe with the same water she used in washing her late husband‘s corpse as part of an age-old tradition to prove she had no hand in his death.

This was revealed in a post shared on X, formerly Twitter, where it was stated that the practice has been in existence for generations.
in some cases, women may even be compelled to drink the water as further proof of their innocence.

Following the emergence of a video showing the act, concerned individuals flooded the comment section to express their thoughts.

See some reactions below:

@sunfloweryetty: “The fact that it’s women that are upholding and enforcing the useless practice says a lot why it’s difficult to abolish totally, some women just derived pleasure and fulfilment in humiliating fellow women . If all the women says no to the practice, the men will back off.”

@OyinNAdun: “Na part of Nigeria be this? Na nollywood lamba I Dey call am oo… Nawa.”
@Gocceal: “There’s a punishment for promiscuity in every society globally. Igbos, make you prove your innocence in the death through so many ways. Regrettably, this is one of the means in this village. It doesn’t represent the practice of all the Igbos.”

@adex_smithjr: “You wondered why their women celebrate being married to Yoruba and other ethnic group. Because they know they’re forever free from the bondage of this barbarism.”

@osamuyi90: “My annoyance with Igbos is they will leave southeast and be debating the problems in other cultures, imagine in Igbo land they still practice outcast system till tomorrow but yet none will boldly talk about it but very loud if it is from other ethnic groups very weird.”
