A Kano Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, following allegations that she seriously injured her boyfriend during a dispute over his alleged plan to marry another woman.
Idris, a resident of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was arraigned on two counts of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt.
The prosecution counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, told the court that the incident took place on July 27 at Badawa Quarters in Kano.
He said the police were alerted by the management of Durbar Hotel, Badawa, after the defendant allegedly attacked her boyfriend, Ashiru Sani, with a sharp object.
The court heard that the alleged attack occurred around 11am after Idris reportedly learnt that Sani intended to marry another woman.
Sani-Buhari said the victim was rushed to the Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital in Kano, where he received medical treatment.
The defendant pleaded guilty when the charges were read to her.
The prosecution said the alleged offences were punishable under Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Sadiya Usman ordered that Idris be kept in a correctional centre and adjourned the matter until September 9 for further mention.
