Woman has been shot dead while filming gunmen’s attack on Ex-Minister Chris Ngige’s Convoy.
NaijaOnPoint Nigeria reports that a yet-to-be-identified woman has been shot dead after gunmen opened fire on the convoy of former Anambra State governor and ex-Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige.
According to Fred Chukwuelobe, Ngige’s former spokesperson, the convoy was ambushed on Wednesday along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Chukwuelobe confirmed that Dr. Ngige was not in the convoy at the time of the attack.
He explained that the armed men, disguised in police and military uniforms, shot a police officer in the pilot vehicle and stole his firearm and uniform.
“Tragically, a young lady who was recording the shooting on her phone was killed instantly by the gunmen,” Chukwuelobe said.
He added that a shop owner who rushed out to see what was happening was also shot. The victim reportedly lost a significant amount of blood but is now set for surgery to extract the bullets and is expected to recover fully.
“No police officer was killed. The escort team leader who was shot has already undergone surgery and is expected to make a full recovery,” he said.
“The shop owner was fortunate as none of the bullets hit his spine.”
Chukwuelobe noted that Dr. Ngige has been fully briefed on the attack and has assured that all injured victims will receive proper medical care. He also extended condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life while recording the incident.
Earlier, Anambra Police spokesperson DSP Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the attack and stated that security operatives recovered a white Mercedes-Benz SUV that the gunmen snatched during the assault.
Investigations are ongoing.
