When it comes to Wonder Woman’s wardrobe, one of her most unexpectedly iconic looks is the golden-eagle armor from Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ four-part mini-series Kingdom Come, published under DC’s Elseworlds imprint in 1996. For those unfamiliar, Elseworlds stories exist outside DC’s mainstream continuity in realities separate from Earth-Prime.
The fact that this armor finds its origins in the Elseworlds imprint makes it all the more impressive that a four-issue series produced one of Diana’s most recognizable looks. Now, DC is bringing this legendary armor back for its biggest crisis event in years, DC K.O..
Wonder Woman’s Kingdom Come Armor Returns for Her Brutal Battle Against Lobo

DC K.O. is a crisis event forcing Earth’s heroes and villains into a tournament-style deathmatch to determine the ultimate champion. The victor will claim the Heart of Apokolips and confront Darkseid before he can conquer the universe. In DC’s latest K.O. match, Wonder Woman and Lobo are pitted against each other, setting the stage for a clash between the Amazon warrior and the Main Man.
DC K.O.: Wonder Woman vs. Lobo #1, written by Joëlle Jones with art by Jason Howard, Cary Nord, and Daniel Bayliss, sees the two face off in three intense rounds. Lobo takes the first round, defeating Diana, while the second round allows both combatants to choose their “preferred battle form.”
Lobo opts for his controversial yet low-key sexy New 52 redesign, while Diana dons her golden-eagle armor from Kingdom Come. The solid-gold look features armored thigh-high boots, a gladiator-style skirt, a bustier, shoulder pauldrons, and a USA flag pinned under the left pauldron. Its standout elements are the eagle-head helm and majestic wings, making this one of Diana’s most unique and iconic designs.

It’s awesome to see Wonder Woman’s legendary armor appear in a present-day, mainstream continuity story, given its origins in an Elseworlds tale. DC has consistently ensured this armor remains unforgettable, with its recognition further boosted by its appearance in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984, solidifying its place in the Amazon warrior’s visual history.
The golden-eagle armor has also appeared repeatedly on variant covers and made a notable appearance in Mark Waid and Dan Mora’s Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #23. Now confirmed as Diana’s preferred battle form in DC K.O., there is no denying the costume’s significance. The armor will forever be remembered as the suit in which Wonder Woman K.O.’ed Lobo.
