THE Super Eagles of Nigeria reportedly refused to train in Rabat, Morocco today in protest against unpaid allowances and bonuses.
The three-time African champions are scheduled to face Gabon on Thursday in the first semi-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs in Rabat.
Reports from Rabat said the full squad, including coaching and support staff, sat out the scheduled training session this evening to demand outstanding financial entitlements.
Sources close to the team confirmed that the players and officials are frustrated by delays in bonuses and allowances, some of which reportedly date back several matches.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not issued an official statement to address the pay dispute.
The training boycott is the second bit of controversy to stain the Super Eagles’ stay in Rabat.
The team’s training base at the Rive Hotel came under public scrutiny yesterday following a viral video shared by Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi, which highlighted concerns about accommodation quality.
Although the NFF defended the choice, citing proximity to the stadium and training facilities, checks on travel website TripAdvisor revealed that previous guests had complained about the noisy environment of the hotel, with an all-night entertainment spot nearby.
