Xiaomi 14T series & Xiaomi MIX Flip will get Gemini Nano soon

Gemini Nano, the LLM developed for on-device AI-powered feature processing, is coming to the recently launched Xiaomi 14T series. Xiaomi’s new flagship killers brought an impressive set of specs and features. There are also AI-powered features on board, as expected, but things will get even better in the future.

Gemini Nano is the “lite” version of Google’s Gemini AI models. Google built Gemini Nano with mobile hardware in mind, enabling local AI tasks with low power consumption, unlike Gemini Pro and Gemini Ultra which run on Google’s powerful servers. The company has been working with phone and chip brands to expand the reach of Gemini Nano. However, currently, it’s only available on select Pixel and Galaxy devices.

Gemini Nano is coming to the Xiaomi 14T series and the global Xiaomi MIX Flip

That said, Xiaomi confirmed to Android Authority that the new Xiaomi 14T and Xiaomi 14T Pro will be the next phones to receive Gemini Nano. The low-power LLM will also be available on the global version of the Xiaomi MIX Flip, according to the report.

Only Google Pixel devices use Gemini Nano for multiple features

Interestingly, it seems that only Google Pixel devices use Gemini Nano for multiple features. The Galaxy S24 series only uses the LLM for the Magic Compose feature in Google Messages. A Xiaomi spokesperson revealed that this will also be the case for the Xiaomi 14T series. However, Google is working on an open API so that third-party developers can use Gemini Nano in their apps. So, while it will initially have limited use on non-Pixel devices, receiving Gemini Nano adds future-proofing.

On the Pixel 9 series, Gemini Nano will power Gemini Live’s multimodal capabilities. This will allow you to “talk” to Gemini in natural language, almost like you would to a person, and even interrupt the assistant while it is responding. Other AI-powered features, such as Call Summary, also rely on the Gemini Nano model to function. It will be exciting to see what third-party developers can achieve with Gemini Nano once the public API is available.
