The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, confronted a Federal Fire Service officer after discovering that the water tank on one of their trucks was only half-filled.
Naijaonpoint reports that in the video making the rounds online, the visibly displeased Minister said such negligence was unacceptable, especially during the harmattan season when fire outbreaks are more frequent and often devastating.
When the officer gave the reason for the action, Tunji Ojo described the excuse as ‘stupid’, stressing the team’s lack of readiness.
According to him, firefighters must remain fully prepared at all times and position themselves near high-risk, high-traffic areas where emergencies could arise without warning.
The Minister stressed that, like every public official, including himself, firefighters are funded by taxpayers and are not paid to give excuses.
He added that their duty is to remain alert, be equipped, and be strategically positioned to respond immediately whenever lives and property are at risk.

Meanwhile, Tunji-Ojo recently directed the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) to immediately resolve the challenges applicants are facing in determining their status in the ongoing paramilitary recruitment.
The Minister noted that several applicants are unable to determine their status and ordered the Secretary of the Board to ensure that all uploads are completed immediately.
The directive follows complaints from several applicants in the ongoing recruitment exercise about their inability to determine or check the status of their applications due to glitches on the recruitment portal.
Tunji-Ojo acknowledged the challenges caused by the ongoing data upload and assured that a resolution is on the way.
