‘You’re letting London down’ – Pep Guardiola and Kevin De Bruyne urged to step up so Manchester City can stop Arsenal winning the Premier League

Former Tottenham defender Neil Ruddock has told Manchester City they are ‘letting London down’ with Arsenal top of the Premier League.

The ex-Liverpool star has urged Pep Guardiola and Kevin De Bruyne to get their act together to stop the Gunners from lifting silverware this season.

A five-point gap separates the two teams in the table, with Arsenal on course to end their 19-year wait for a league title.

And the prospect of Arsenal returning to the pinnacle of English football is too much for Ruddock to bare.

The 54-year-old, who started his career off at Millwall before joining Spurs, also featured for London clubs QPR, West Ham and Crystal Palace.

Speaking on the Sports Breakfast show, Ruddock sent a public plea to Citizens boss Pep Guardiola and playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.

He said: “Pep, De Bruyne, please get yourselves together, speak to each other.

“Talk, don’t hold it all in, speak to each other, Pep – I need you – I need Man City.

“I’ve never needed Man City in my life, but I need them now.

“Don’t let Arsenal win the championship. Don’t let them win the Premier League, please! I’ll have to move!

“Listen Pep, you’re not only letting Man City down, you’re not only letting Man City’s fans down, you are letting every team in London down except Arsenal!

“Arsenal fans think they invented football, no they didn’t!

“Pep, De Bruyne, please talk.”

De Bruyne has struggled for form since the World Cup break, resulting in the Belgian starting just five of City’s last nine games.

The ex-Chelsea midfielder has joked he is now an ‘old man’ in the game despite being just 31 as he commented on his inconsistency ahead of City’s Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.

Things could get worse for City this weekend where Arsenal could extend their lead to eight points.

City aren’t in Premier League action as they instead face Burnley in the FA Cup, while Arsenal pit their wits against Crystal Palace at the Emirates on Sunday.
