Two YouTubers built a fully-functional iPhone 15 Pro Max that is the largest in the world. This feat has earned them a Guinness World Record.
DIY Perks and MrWhoseTheBoss built the world’s largest iPhone 15 Pro Max
YouTubers Matthew Perkins (DIY Perks) and Arun Maini (MrWhoseTheBoss) have created the world’s largest iPhone 15 Pro Max. The gigantic device is 6.74 feet tall and weighs around 440 pounds.
The project, which has won Perkins and Maini a Guinness World Record, is a true feat of engineering, prototyping, and staying true to the objectives. In other words, the goal was to build a giant iPhone, and they successfully created a functional device.
Specifically speaking, the behemoth appears to be just as functional as a handheld iPhone. Maini and a group of friends reportedly took the phone into the real world to test it out. The YouTuber has proved the device can make tap-to-pay purchases, send emails, and make video calls
Is it truly an Apple iPhone though?
The World’s largest iPhone 15 Pro Max is essentially the result of combining off-the-shelf electronics, 3D-printed components, clever engineering, and novel assembly processes.
The display of the giant phone is an LG Signature 88-inch OLED TV with an equally large touch foil. Perkins managed to convert the TV into a massive touchscreen by gluing the touch-sensitive layer on the TV with clear epoxy glue.
Perkins then proceeded to build a frame out of aluminum. To reinforce the structure, he embedded a cross-shaped support in the middle. The three-lens camera array, the volume and power buttons, and the special function button are all specially fabricated.
The camera setup on the mammoth iPhone 15 Pro Max comprises a Canon EOS R5 as well as a Sony RX10 Mark 4. Simply put, this device has a telephoto lens just like the real iPhone 15 Pro Max smartphone.
The record-creating device has a dedicated “phone stand”. This allows the device to be rotated with ease for portrait and landscape orientation, and take the device out for demonstration.
Perhaps the only thing the duo couldn’t replicate was the iOS operating system which powers all Apple iPhones. A custom version of Bliss OS acts as the operating system. It has, however, has an iOS theme. It would be interesting to see if this giant phone supports MagSafe.
