A member of the House of Representatives representing the Bungudu/Maru constituency of Zamfara State, Abdulmalik Zubairu, got it rough when he visited Dansadau, one of the communities making up his constituency as an angry crowd descended on him, beating and pouring sand on him over what they described as his poor performance since assuming office.
A video circulating on social media platforms since Wednesday, showed the lawmaker being slapped and manhandled by the mob while some security operatives struggled to shield him from further attacks.
The enraged crowd who further expressed their displeasure with the performance of the lawmaker, could be heard shouting “bamuayi,” a Hausa term often used to express rejection or anger, as the lawmaker was pulled in different directions before security personnel eventually overpowered the attackers and forced him into a waiting vehicle.
In the video footage, different angry voices are also heard expressing their frustration over what described as unmet expectations and a lack of tangible projects in the area since the lawmaker’s election, while others are heard accusing him of abandoning the community after winning the election, alleging that repeated appeals for development, empowerment programmes and constituency presence were ignored.
