A Zamfara State High Court sitting in Gusau has issued an interim injunction restraining Bashar Aliyu from presenting himself as Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
Naijaonpoint reports that the order, granted by Justice Muhammad Gusau, also bars eight others from performing legislative functions or acting as members of the Assembly pending the determination of a motion before the court.
The ruling followed a motion filed by the Zamfara State House of Assembly on June 23, 2025, seeking to stop the disputed lawmakers from conducting legislative activities.
Delivering the order, Justice Gusau declared, “That the 1st Respondent (Aliyu), by himself, his agents, employees, officials, or any other persons acting on his behalf, is hereby restrained in the interim from parading himself as the Speaker of the Applicant or assuming the functions of the Speaker of the Applicant, pending the hearing and determination of Motion No. ZMS/GS/M.228/2025.”
The judge further directed that the 2nd to 9th respondents and their supporters must not convene any sessions or pass resolutions geared towards electing or sustaining a parallel leadership.
“The application succeeds and is hereby granted as prayed,” the judge ruled.
The injunction is the latest twist in a deepening leadership crisis that has rocked the Zamfara State House of Assembly, with rival factions vying for the speakership and control of the legislative arm.
The Assembly, through its legal representatives, had approached the court to halt what it described as illegal attempts to usurp the leadership of the House.
