Zootopia 2 has shot past a major box office milestone at the end of its first full week in theaters. The animated Disney sequel debuted in theaters on Wednesday, November 26, earning a 5-day domestic debut of $158.8 million worldwide and marking the second-biggest Thanksgiving weekend haul in history behind 2024’s Moana 2.
Per The Numbers, as of Tuesday, Zootopia has reached a cumulative worldwide box office gross of $616.8 million, comprising $169.9 million from domestic theaters and an additional $446.9 million from international markets. This makes it only the seventh Walt Disney Animated Studios movie to ever pass the $600 million global milestone.
The only Disney animated movies to have passed that milestone before 2025’s Zootopia 2 are 2014’s Big Hero 6 ($646.6 million), 2016’s Moana ($684.3 million), the original 2016 Zootopia ($1.018 billion), Moana 2 ($1.059 billion), 2013’s Frozen ($1.269 billion), and 2019’s Frozen II ($1.452 billion), the latter of which is the fourth highest-grossing animated movie of all time.
Additionally, Zootopia has become just the ninth 2025 movie to pass the $600 million global milestone and has already surpassed James Gunn’s Superman ($616.7 million) by a hair to become the No. 8 movie of the year so far.
Because it has achieved this record in the span of just one week, Zootopia 2 seems destined to climb much higher up Disney’s all-time chart by the end of its run. In fact, per Variety, it is already projected to earn a 3-day sophomore weekend total between $44 and $50 million at the domestic box office alone.
Even if it hits the lower bound of that range, Zootopia 2 will outgross Big Hero 6 by the end of Sunday. It also seems set to outgross Moana during its sophomore weekend when its international grosses are taken into account.
This is highly likely, because international markets have so far accounted for more than 70% of Zootopia 2‘s overall gross. This includes China, where it is already the fifth highest-grossing American movie of all time.
The movie only cost a reported $150 million, which likely places its estimated break-even point somewhere around $375 million. Because of this, as it continues to climb, it seems more and more likely that the possible third installment teased by the ending of Zootopia 2 will come to fruition.
