The victims were kidnapped on Monday, September 2 and police authorities had promised to investigate the incident and ensure the victims’ rescue. A source confirmed today that the victims had been released. According to the source, the abductors abandoned 10 of the travelers after noticing that operatives from the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Bonny were searching for them. An official within FOB Bonny, who requested anonymity, stated that the base had been tracking the kidnappers since the report was made, and their intensive intelligence work forced the abductors to flee, leaving the victims along the Onne channel. The rescued travelers were taken to the base for medical evaluations before being reunited with their families. Although no official statement has been issued by the Navy or the Police, both agencies have pledged to continue intensifying operations against sea pirates in the area.
