12 killed as terrorists attack Kebbi, Benue communities

Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have killed six people and rustled an unspecified number of cattle in an attack on Baziga and Rausar Kade villages in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

According to Arewa LGA Chairman, Hon. Sani Aliyu Tela, the gunmen launched the attack from Matankari, a border area with Sokoto State. Residents of Baziga rushed to help those in Rausar Kade but were met with gunfire, resulting in six deaths.

Governor Nasir Idris, during a visit to the affected communities, assured residents of intensified security measures, describing the attacks as “hit-and-run tactics” by infiltrators from neighboring states. He also ordered the provision of solar-powered boreholes for the villages and announced financial support for victims’ families.

In a separate incident in Benue State, armed attackers raided Tse Ugema Chul, Mbakesa, and Ugbaam in Ukum Local Government Area, killing six people. Several residents remain missing.

Local authorities, including Ukum LGA Chairman Jonathan Modi, are assessing the situation. However, the Benue State Police Command stated it was yet to receive official reports on the attack.
