At least 15 former officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging loyalty to the party’s leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
Those who decamped included the former PDP Youth Leader, Sahad Dabo; former Treasurer, Nasiru Anka; former Organising Secretaries, Janaidu Magaji Kiyawa and Musa Halilu Faru; former Zonal Organising Secretary, Lawali Aliyu; as well as ex officio members, Hajiya Rabi Bakura and Hajiya Amina Duniya.
Others were Bashar Mohammed Dogon Kade, a former PDP aspirant for Kaura Namoda South constituency, and Rilwanu Bello, an ex-councillorship aspirant.
Speaking as he handed over his PDP membership card, Isiyaka M. Dabo said he left the PDP because the party only “favours the rich.”
He declared, “I am inspired by Senator Yari and Matawalle’s leadership to join the winning party.”
On her part, Amina Duniya, who disclosed she had spent 25 years in the PDP, urged APC leaders to uphold fairness and justice, pledging to mobilise more supporters into the party.
Matawalle Welcomes Decampees
The defectors were officially received in Abuja on Thursday by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, alongside Zamfara APC chairman, Hon. Tukur Umar Danfulani, Senator Tijjani Yahaya, and Hon. Lawal M. Liman.
Welcoming them, Matawalle described their move as bold and timely, noting that the APC remained the most popular and acceptable party in Zamfara and across Nigeria.
“APC will continue to be more united and strong with the current strategy mapped out and its welfare packages being delivered to the people of the state,” he said.
In his remarks, APC state chairman, Tukur Umar Danfulani, assured the defectors of full integration, stressing that the party was open and fair to all who were committed to its progress.
He dismissed claims of division within the party, insisting that the APC was united and growing stronger by the day.
“With our recent victory in the state by-election and the calibre of people joining us, it is clear that APC will reclaim Zamfara in 2027,” Danfulani stated.
