Ahead of the All Progressives Congress Anambra governorship primary election scheduled for Saturday, an aspirant, Chukwuma Umeoji has stepped down from the race.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had earlier scheduled the party primaries to take place between March 20, 2025, and April 10, 2025.

Another of the party’s top contenders, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has also officially resigned from the party, leaving many to wonder about his next move.

Chukwuma, a former National Auditor of the APC, communicated his resignation in a letter addressed to his Ward Chairman, Umueri Ward 2, Anambra East, dated March 3, 2025.

In the letter, he also announced his withdrawal from the upcoming APC primary election, affirming that his support for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s administration and the Renewed Hope agenda remains steadfast.

The announcement came after a series of intense discussions with friends and loyalists, which continued late into Friday night.

It is worth noting that the APC in Anambra State has been embroiled in internal turmoil since the controversial conduct of the last Ward Delegate election.

Aspirants and party members have repeatedly accused the state and national leadership of favoring a new entrant in the party.

Earlier, some members of the party alleged that the Delegate List for Saturday’s primary election had been manipulated to benefit the same aspirant.Following Umeoji’s withdrawal from the race, the five remaining APC aspirants who purchased the forms—Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Nicholas Ukachukwu, , Onunkwo Johnbisco Obinna, Valentine Ozigbo, and Edozie Madu—will compete for the party’s ticket tomorrow.

Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, who announced Umeoji’s withdrawal, expressed optimism that he would support and work towards the success of the party’s eventual gubernatorial candidate in the November 8, 2025 Anambra state election.

The statement read in part “An aspirant in tomorrow’s gubernatorial primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji, has informed the Party of his decision to withdraw from the election. According to him, this decision was made in good faith following consultations with my supporters across the state.
