The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ejimofor Opara, has expressed strong confidence that the party will sweep the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, declaring that Governor Charles Soludo’s re-election is “already a people’s movement.”
Opara said the party is not only targeting victory in the 21 local government areas, but is aiming to win all 5,720 polling units across the state.
“We are ready. We are dotting our I’s and crossing our T’s. Our campaign is door-to-door, people-to-people,” Opara said in an interview with The PUNCH.
“Our goal is not just to win the 21 local governments but all 5,720 polling units. That’s our target and it has kept us very busy.”
He added that Soludo’s campaign has been issue-based, simple, and people-driven, unlike the “flamboyant” campaigns of the past.
“If you look at this campaign season, you’ll understand that Soludo has redefined the face of politics, not just in Anambra, but in the South-East and across Nigeria,” Opara said.
“On a scale of one to 10, Soludo is on a perfect 10 while his opponents are still struggling to reach one.”
According to him, the party’s campaign mood is one of “celebration and confidence,” adding that the atmosphere in the state is “calm and favourable.”
‘APC Crying Wolf Over ₦50 Million Campaign Fee’
The APGA spokesman dismissed the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s criticism of the ₦50 million campaign signage fee, calling the opposition’s complaint “a weak excuse.”
The APC had accused the Anambra State Government of using the Anambra State Signage and Advertising Agency (ANSAA) to stifle opposition campaigns through exorbitant fees.
Opara countered the allegation, insisting that ANSAA operates under the law.
“They are crying wolf and looking for lame excuses. ANSAA is a creation of the law to regulate outdoor signage and ensure public order. This is standard practice globally. If the APC has issues with the fee, they should engage the agency involved,” he said.
He added that the opposition’s claim reflects its lack of structure and understanding of governance.
‘APC in Anambra Is Toothless, Spineless’
Opara also dismissed the APC’s claim that it would win the November election, describing the party as “nonexistent” in Anambra.
“Everybody is entitled to dream, even though some dreams are nightmares,” he said mockingly. “The APC in Anambra is a toothless bulldog and spineless. They don’t exist in this state.”
He alleged that the APC’s candidate lacks the blessing of the party’s national leadership.
“Their candidate doesn’t even have the support of their national hierarchy, not to mention the President. So what exactly are they campaigning on? If they claim to have a structure, let them show us their ward, local government, and state chapters. They can’t,” Opara added.
He further challenged critics who claimed that APGA failed in Anambra to define failure.
“Anybody who says APGA has failed should explain how. Do they understand what failure really means?” he asked.
Reacting to APC’s allegations that Governor Soludo was using local government funds disguised as community donations to finance his campaign, Opara said the claim was “a cheap lie.”
“Has any local government come out to say their allocations are withheld? These APC people are just busybodies,” he said.
He explained that the contributions for Soludo’s re-election are voluntary donations from communities and individuals, motivated by the governor’s performance and leadership.
“The people donating are not ghosts. Ndi Anambra are giving their money, time, and resources to say, ‘Go for a second tenure; we are behind you.’ If APC feels it’s a hoax, let them petition the EFCC. He who alleges must prove,” Opara said.
He described Soludo’s candidacy as “a consensus one, not just of APGA, but of the people.”
“Soludo is not just APGA’s candidate; he’s the people’s candidate. The support you’re seeing is organic,” he added.
‘Fake Certificate Allegation Is a Smokescreen’
On APC’s claim that the governor was attempting to distract its candidate and running mate by questioning their qualifications, Opara said no serious party ignores certificate controversies.
“Who distracts someone who is genuine? If your certificate is authentic, why are you worried?” he asked.
He cited recent examples where public officers resigned after their credentials were found to be fake.
“A minister recently resigned because it was proven that his certificate was fake. Qualification is a serious matter. So if they say it’s distraction, then they are the actual distraction,” he said.
According to him, any candidate contesting for governor must be credible and qualified, adding that integrity is non-negotiable in public service.
“They should step aside if there’s any issue with their certificates. The law is clear — only qualified candidates can stand for election,” he said.
Opara maintained that Governor Soludo has transformed governance in Anambra through his people-oriented leadership style, infrastructure renewal, and youth-focused policies.
“The kind of politics Soludo is bringing is people-centric. The people are directly involved, from farmers to traders, teachers to artisans. Everyone is part of the process,” he said.
He added that Soludo’s administration has redefined transparency and accountability in state governance.
“Under Soludo, you can see where every naira goes. The days of wasteful governance are gone. That’s why the people are behind him,” Opara said.
Opara concluded by expressing optimism that APGA will retain power in Anambra, saying the governor’s record of achievements and the people’s trust are enough to secure victory.
“The people of Anambra know who’s working for them. They’ve seen Soludo’s sincerity, his vision, and his results. That’s why we’re confident,” he said.
He described the forthcoming election as a referendum on performance, not propaganda. “The opposition can keep talking; we’re busy working. At the end of the day, results will speak louder than noise,” Opara said with confidence.
