Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared his intention to contest the August 8, 2026, governorship election on the platform of the APC.

Omisore, who addressed journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday shortly after his formal declaration, vowed to bring what he described as “structural adjustment and development” to Osun if elected governor.

“Government is not a dancing matter but a serious business that must be taken seriously by serious people,” he said.

The APC chieftain expressed confidence that he would secure the party’s ticket at the December 15 primaries.

“APC’s chance in 2026 is 100 per cent, and I am optimistic that if we should go to the primaries today, I will win by 90 per cent. And by God’s grace, I will emerge victorious and deliver the state for APC,” Omisore declared.

He added that the large turnout of party supporters at his declaration was a clear sign of the backing he enjoys from core APC members across the state.

“The large crowd is to show the strength of the rescue mission to ensure that we get the party’s ticket by God’s grace and win the governorship election,” he noted.

The Director-General of the Omisore Campaign Organisation, Ajibola Famurewa, described the former deputy governor as the most experienced aspirant in the race.

“Governance is a serious business, and as a former deputy governor, he is the most experienced among other good aspirants of the party to fly the ticket and deliver victory come next year,” Famurewa said.

He explained that Omisore’s declaration followed calls from APC members across the wards in Osun.

“These are the people that asked Omisore to come out and vie for the ticket of the party. We are sure that with their support, Omisore will emerge as the party’s candidate,” Famurewa added.
