Members of Aba Union, the apex socio-cultural leadership body of the nine local government areas that make up the Old Aba Division, have unanimously endorsed and declared their total support for Governor Alex Otti, pledging to work towards his re-election in 2027.
The declaration came during a closed-door but impactful meeting held at the Aba residence of an elder statesman and the first Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Abia State, Chief Theo Nkire.
The private parley brought together the leadership of Aba Union, prominent political figures, and traditional rulers across the Old Aba Division to interface with the Governor and formally express their endorsement of his leadership.
The host, Chief Theo Nkire, and the President of Aba Union, His Royal Majesty Eze Love Nwogu, led the delegation in presenting a heartfelt position to Governor Otti.
They described the meeting as a moment of truth and reckoning, noting that although many within the bloc did not support his candidacy in the 2023 elections, his extraordinary performance in office within just two years had earned him their full trust and admiration.
According to them, Governor Otti’s achievements have far exceeded expectations, surpassing the cumulative records of previous administrations in the past two decades.
They commended his magnanimity in victory and described him as a son of the soil who has restored dignity, pride, and progress to the Aba region and beyond.
They cited landmark projects such as the Port Harcourt Road reconstruction, the proposed Abia Airport in Nsulu, the Medical Village in Owerrinta, and the Abia Industrial Innovation Park (AIIP) in Owaza as signature developments that directly benefit their people.
The leaders expressed their desire to host Governor Otti to a grand civic reception on behalf of the nine LGAs under the Aba Union and requested his approval of a suitable date for the event.
They emphasized that with their full backing, Governor Otti will face no meaningful opposition in the 2027 gubernatorial race.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial Zone, and the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, both lent their voices to the resounding endorsement.
They affirmed Governor Otti as the consensus candidate for the 2027 election, questioning what any rival could possibly present to Abians after the sweeping and visible transformation witnessed under Otti’s leadership.
Responding, Governor Otti expressed deep gratitude for the show of support and humility, declaring that power belongs to God and that his 2023 electoral victory was divinely orchestrated.
He attributed the success of his administration to God’s grace and a strong commitment to delivering good governance.
The Governor briefed the gathering on ongoing infrastructural developments across Aba and other parts of the state, including the use of rigid pavement technology for road construction on Ohanku and Obohia roads, promising up to 50 years of durability.
He further announced that rehabilitation work will soon commence on Uratta and Old Express roads.
In his remarks, Governor Otti also informed stakeholders that the residence and access road of the late elder statesman and foremost nationalist, Chief Jaja Wachukwu, are undergoing renovation and retrofitting in preparation for a planned posthumous birthday celebration scheduled for January 1st, 2026.
Reiterating his zero tolerance for political irresponsibility, the Governor emphasized the importance of peace and security in sustaining progress across the state.
He assured the people that his government remains focused on delivering a legacy of inclusive growth and development.
The meeting was attended by the crème de la crème of the Ukwa la Ngwa nation, traditional rulers, and political stakeholders from the Old Aba Division, signifying a historic political alignment behind Governor Otti as he continues to steer Abia State into a new era of infrastructural rebirth, accountability, and people-centered governance.
