The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has constituted a Transitional Committee in Borno State, nominating Hon. Adamu Usman Tubo as Chairman and Hon. Sunusi Lawan Badawi as Secretary.
Tubo is from the Southern Borno Senatorial District, while Badawi hails from Borno North. The development was contained in a circular signed by the party’s Assistant National Organising Secretary and North-East Organising Secretary, Hon. Mohammed Abba Kyari.
According to the circular, the nominations followed recent defections and realignments involving members from major political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, All Progressives Congress, APC, Labour Party, LP, Social Democratic Party, SDP, and New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, who have joined the ADC coalition to strengthen the party in the state.
Prominent figures listed as leaders and members of the ADC in Borno include former APC chieftain and past TETFund Chairman Mattawali Kashim Ibrahim-Imam; former APC governorship aspirant and 2023 Southern Borno senatorial candidate Alhaji Idris Mamman Durkwa; former NNPP 2023 senatorial candidate Alhaji Attom Magira; and former House Minority Leader and APC 2019 governorship aspirant Barrister Mohammed Kumalia.
Others include former Borno State House of Assembly Speakers Rt. Hon. Bukar Kachallah and Rt. Hon. Bulama Fugu, as well as youth stakeholders such as Hon. Sheriff Banki, Hon. Abba Haruna, and Hon. Abba Masta.
The circular, dated December 18, 2025, and bearing the party’s national address at Plot 121, Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja, was copied to the offices of ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark, National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, and National Organising Secretary Barrister Chinedu Odigbo.
“The committee will be led by Hon. Adamu Usman Tubo from Borno South Senatorial District as Chairman, while Hon. Sunusi Lawan Badawi from Borno North Senatorial District will serve as Secretary,” the circular stated.
It added that members were selected based on political background, local government areas, federal constituencies, and senatorial districts.
Political observers say the ADC is positioning itself as a major opposition force in Borno State ahead of the 2027 elections, as the PDP continues to face internal challenges nationwide.
