WATCH THE VIDEO HERE An influential Labour Party stalwart in Enugu State, Barr Emeka Abah, weekend, said efforts were ongoing to merge the LP structure in Enugu North senatorial zone of the state with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. Abah, an Abuja-based lawyer, stated this weekend at Obollo-Afor, headquarters of Udenu LGA, when he led some LP ward chairmen and other stakeholders, as well as staunch members of the Peoples Democratic Party to formally join APC. He assured of the replication of the success story of the Labour Party in Enugu North zone during the 2023 general elections where the party defeated a sitting governor in the senatorial election, and won most of the House of Representatives and state Assembly seats. In his words, “We have work to do, which is to unseat the sitting governor. We must plan ahead and synergise. We should not look at money, but at the end of the tunnel. We shall amalgamate LP structures of Nsukka cultural zone with APC, and advance to the Enugu West zone and achieve the same thing. We won most of the seats during the last election, but our candidates were not proper ones. That is why they are decamping.” The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, who was present at the decamping, called on Enugu people to join the national party, saying President Bola Tinubu is doing a lot in Southeast, and deserves support. He decried what he called over-taxation in Enugu State. According to him, “Federal allocations accruing to the state are enough for Enugu people. Come 2027, God will tell Enugu people why He is God. I’m confident that the star is our limit in Enugu State.” Welcoming the decampees, the state Chairman of APC, Barr Ugochukwu Agbala, said APC’s structure was firm in the state. According to him, “Hitherto APC was hijacked by PDP. I’m happy that despite the hijacking of the party by moles, APC in Udenu LGA survived the storm. Many APC stalwarts betrayed us in Udenu LGA. We don’t need moles, and that is why many people identified as moles were removed because of anti-party activities. Any opposition party must be disciplined. “Our target is to remove the state governor come 2027. Our battle is against the political wickedness of the bigwigs. We need a governor that has the heart of a governor. I urge the decampees to defend our great party. Through the instrumentality of Minister Uche Nnaji, more than 500 sons and daughters have been employed at the federal level, and this administration is just about two years. Projects are being attracted. They blackmailed APC that it was an Islamic party. But Tinubu has empowered more Christians than both former presidents Obasanjo and Jonathan.” He said APC in the state does not get funding from the federal government, but “solely funded by Minister Uche Nnaji”. He said that what happened in 2023 elections would never happen in the state again, claiming that, “Labour Party won the guber seat, but PDP stole the mandate.” He therefore submitted that, “We need alliances with LP. LP has the people, and we have the power. PDP is oppressing the poor. We need proper candidates this time around.”
