The Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has vowed to mobilise all available political resources to ensure that Abia State is delivered to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Naijaonpoint reports that Kalu made the declaration on Thursday during his annual New Year visit to the Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, at Ekoli in Edda Local Government Area.
The former governor of Abia State said the APC must wrest power from the ruling Labour Party in the state, stressing that he would leave nothing undone to achieve a sweeping victory for the party.
“I will support President Bola Tinubu and the APC gubernatorial candidate in the elections.
“I will put my heart on the field to ensure that the APC wins landslide in Abia at the election.
“The incumbent Governor, Dr Alex Otti, is my friend, but I am not discussing friendship. What I am talking about is the total victory of the APC in the elections,” he added.
Kalu also charged state governors across the country to take full responsibility for securing lives and property in their respective states, rather than relying solely on the President.
Recalling his time as governor, the senator said effective leadership could significantly curb insecurity.
“When I was Abia governor, I ensured total security of lives and properties.
“There were no cases of kidnapping and other crimes in Abia at a time other states were grappling with heightened insecurity,” he said.
He urged governors to emulate the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, whom he praised for maintaining peace in the state.
“The governors should emulate Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, who has ensured adequate peace and security in the state,” Kalu stated.
Explaining the reason behind his yearly New Year visit to the Ebonyi APC chairman, Kalu said it was rooted in Okoro-Emegha’s unwavering loyalty over the years.
“He is an embodiment of loyalty and someone you can trust with your life,” Kalu said.
“I raised him as a child, even when his father was alive, and he was part of the success stories I recorded as a governor.”
Kalu further revealed that when Okoro-Emegha was handed over to former Ebonyi State Governor and current Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, he personally advised him to remain steadfast.
“When I handed him over to former Governor David Umahi, I urged him to give his principal 100 per cent loyalty.
“He has carried that same virtue forward and transferred it to the incumbent governor, Francis Nwifuru,” he added.
