Former governor of Kano State and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed speculation that he will leave the NNPP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the party’s 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday, Kwankwaso stressed that he remained firmly rooted in the party, even though he remained open to dialogue with other political actors.

Naijaonpoint reports that Kwankwaso explained that the meeting was never intended to announce his defection or alignment with other parties.

The former governor said, “Many people thought today we will announce whether I will stay in NNPP or go to another party or join some individuals. That was not the intention of the meeting. We have our party, and we are comfortable and happy.”

He further stated that while the NNPP was not desperate, it remained flexible in engaging with stakeholders.

“We believe we have something to offer at the highest leadership level of this country. We are ready to talk to anybody, but any negotiation will be collective,” he stated.

Earlier, the NNPP National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, reaffirmed Kwankwaso as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 presidential election.

“Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, our visionary leader, former governor, minister, diplomat, and 2023 presidential candidate, will Insha Allah be our candidate again in 2027,” Ahmed declared.

He described the NNPP as the “beautiful bride” of Nigerian politics, noting that the party was gaining prominence with its manifesto anchored on progressive ideology and citizens’ welfare.

Ahmed also praised Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for “touching millions of lives” and restoring peace in the state, saying his performance reflected the NNPP’s vision for a new Nigeria.

NNPP Eyes Anambra, FCT Polls

On preparations for upcoming elections, the party’s National Secretary, Dipo Olayoku, said the NNPP was ready for the November 8, 2025, Anambra governorship election, as well as the FCT council polls slated for February 2026.

He further disclosed that the processes to elect a new National Working Committee would soon commence, as the tenure of the current executives, elected in April 2022, was coming to a close.

The party also urged Nigerians to take advantage of INEC’s continuous voter registration to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards.

“Your vote is your voice and power to elect credible leaders,” the NNPP said in a communiqué.
