A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ada Kate Uchegbu, has declared that Nigerians are weary of what she described as “recycled politicians” who have dominated the nation’s leadership for decades.
The journalist-turned-politician said it was time for Nigeria to break away from the cycle of failed governance and embrace female leadership capable of steering the country in a new direction.
In a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, Uchegbu said decades of male-dominated leadership had left Nigeria trapped in insecurity, hunger, unemployment, and hopelessness.
Uchegbu said the 2027 general elections present an opportunity for the country to experience the nurturing and visionary leadership that women can offer.
“Decades of male-dominated leadership have left the country trapped in insecurity, hunger, unemployment, and despair. It is time for a nurturing and visionary leadership style that only a woman’s heart can deliver,” Daily Post quoted Uchegbu as stating.
“Nigeria deserves a fresh deal for the country to become better. African women are among capable leaders in the world. Nigeria’s political culture will change forever if a woman emerges as the country’s president.”
The PDP presidential hopeful noted that Nigeria had reached a breaking point due to years of failed leadership by the same political class. She stressed that the country needed both a generational and ideological shift.
“Nigeria is at a breaking point. We have recycled leaders and expected different results. It hasn’t worked,” she said.
“I am stepping in because we need a generational shift in both age and mindset.”
She added that her aspiration was not just about gender but about competence and innovation, insisting that leadership should be based on merit, not patronage.
Speaking further, Uchegbu urged Nigerians, particularly voters in Anambra and across the federation, to reject vote-buying and political godfatherism.
“Anambra must vote for competence, not cash or political godfathers,” she said. “This election is a chance to set the tone for credible governance nationwide.”
She also charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure transparency and fairness during elections.
“INEC must guarantee transparency, protect voters from intimidation and choose leaders who can build, not those who only campaign,” she added.
Uchegbu appealed to political parties to give women a fair chance in the 2027 elections by presenting female presidential candidates.
She maintained that Nigeria’s progress depended on inclusivity and gender balance in governance.
“It’s time for political parties to present female candidates capable of transforming Nigeria’s political landscape,” she said.
