Special Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Media, Paul Ibe, has stated that his principal and the Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have not discussed compromising the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
Naijaonpoint reports that Ibe made this clarification on Wednesday while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme.
According to Ibe, Peter Obi and Atiku are concerned about building and ensuring the existence of an alternative platform to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
He said, “Like I said earlier, having that kind of conversation is putting the car before the horse. Obi and Atiku have not had that conversation as far as the ADC is concerned.
“If the platform of the ADC created is not robust enough, their aspirations and ambition will come to not. They are trying to have a robust platform. Any other thing is a distraction brought about by the President Tinubu-led administration.”
Meanwhile, fresh political realignments may be on the horizon ahead of the 2027 general election, as opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and th ADC, intensify consultations to present a formidable front against the APC.
Sources told Vanguard on Tuesday that several high-level meetings are ongoing among key political stakeholders, including Atiku and Peter Obi.
“Consultations are going on. Sooner or later, the details will begin to emerge. I don’t want to pre-empt the outcome of the consultations,” a source said.
Reacting to reports that the PDP was planning to woo Obi and Atiku into a broad opposition coalition, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed the idea with a laugh.
