2027: North has ditched your 2023 alliance – Ohanaeze to Tinubu

Apex Igbo Socio-cultural Organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has declared that the prospect of reconciliation between the Northern region and President Bola Tinubu has reached an irreparable juncture.

Ohanaeze said that despite the myriad of presidential appointments and infrastructural promises, the partnership that once flourished in 2023 is now a shadow of its self.

The body stated that the North has decisively abandoned Tinubu and he is now actively forging alliances with leaders from the Southeast and Niger Delta with the singular aim of displacing him in the forthcoming 2027 elections.

This is contained in a statement issued on Monday by Ohanaeze’s factional Deputy President–General, Mazi Okechukwu lsigozoro and made available to DAILY POST.

According to Ohanaeze, it is imperative to convey to President Tinubu the stark and unvarnished truth: without the immediate reversal of critical federal government policies, and the expeditious implementation of substantial corrective measures, the suffering masses of Nigeria will inevitably gravitate towards the narratives being advanced by opposition coalitions, particularly those spearheaded by Northern leaders, advocating for a transformative change in leadership.

The statement read, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo urges the Federal Government to undertake a paradigmatic shift in its approach. It is essential to demystify the perceived numerical dominance of the North through a credible National Census in 2025.

“This census must incorporate mandatory inclusions of ethnicity and religious identity, thus unveiling the true demographic realities of our nation.

“The long-standing myth of Northern numerical superiority must be dismantled; current data suggests that approximately 39% of the Northern population comprises Igbo communities while about 31% are constituted of Middle Belt Christians, with the Hausa and Fulani accounting for merely 30%.

“The persistent resistance of Northern leaders to the inclusion of such vital identifiers in previous census exercises speaks volumes about their awareness of this demographic truth.

“Furthermore, it is essential for the Federal Government to prioritize the pressing needs of the Igbo Nation in its policy formulations. Such a course of action will not only activate Igbo solidarity across all 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria but will also serve as a foundation for a more equitable national dialogue.

“In this light, President Tinubu should take decisive action without delay, issuing the proclamation for the establishment of a sixth state for the Southeast, revitalizing the Eastern Economic Corridor, and initiating the much-needed reopening and dredging of the Calabar Seaport, which has been dormant for an astounding 57 years.

“Additionally, there is a pressing need for the full utilization of Port Harcourt Seaport, the construction of a deep seaport in Azumiri (Ukwa East LGA, Abia State), and the upgrading of the Port Harcourt-Aba-Enugu-Maiduguri railway to standard gauge.

“The unconditional political release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is also paramount to paving the way for renewed trust and engagement.

“In doing so, President Tinubu has the unique opportunity to dispel the perceived Northern numerical superiority, which has long served to reinforce outdated political dominance in Nigeria.

“This pivotal action, realized through a transparent and inclusive 2025 Census, is fundamental for establishing a new political equilibrium.

“Moreover, Ohanaeze calls upon the Federal Government to extend an olive branch to non-violent Biafra agitators to effectively address the escalating violence and insecurity challenges in the Southeast.

“Emerging indicators suggest that proponents of non-violent self-determination are poised for dialogue and reconciliation.The Federal Government is urged to seize this critical juncture to foster peace and stability in the Southeast region.

“it is vital for the Tinubu administration to recognize the intrinsic value and potential of the Igbo Nation. A future forged through genuine collaboration and inclusive policies will lay the groundwork for a more harmonious and prosperous Nigeria.

“We must champion dialogue over division and cooperation over confrontation, for the well-being of Nigeria rests in our collective hands.
