2027: Okonkwo Urges Atiku, Tinubu, and Obi to Step Aside from Presidential Race

Okonkwo, who served as a spokesperson for the LP presidential campaign in the 2023 elections alongside Obi, has now distanced himself from his previous support for the LP candidate.

He insists that Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi should make way for new candidates in Nigeria’s upcoming elections.

Okonkwo reaffirmed his stance, emphasizing the need for political figures to take their mandate seriously.

“I said it, and I stand by it because in Nigeria, people entrust you with their mandate, and you must not take it lightly. You must do everything necessary to secure it,” he stated. “Unfortunately, in Nigeria, winning an election isn’t enough—you also have to fight to keep your mandate.”

Despite his involvement in Obi’s 2023 campaign, Okonkwo insists he will not support him in future elections.

“I still maintain that whatever happened in 2023 should remain in the past,” he said, firmly ruling out backing the former Anambra governor in the next general election.

‘I Resigned on Principle’

Okonkwo was a key figure in the Labour Party, which gained significant traction in the 2023 elections. Obi secured over six million votes, largely driven by youth support.

However, today, Okonkwo announced his resignation from the LP, citing internal conflicts within the party.

A former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Okonkwo also dismissed the possibility of returning to the ruling party unless significant changes occur.

“I resigned from the APC on principle,” he said. “But if the APC genuinely reforms and starts working in Nigeria’s best interest, I will be the first to acknowledge it.” He criticized the party for failing to address the nation’s pressing issues.
