Veteran actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only deceived Nigerians by declaring that it has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the south.

The Labour Party chieftain also added that zoning is among the six geopolitical zones in the country, and not between the North and South.

According to him, rotation is between the North and South and currently, presidential power is in the South, so the issue of rotation is not relevant.

Naijaonpoint reports Okonkwo made the submission in a statement on Sunday in which he reacted to the declaration by the PDP that it has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the south.

The LP chieftain added that if political parties in the country are serious about zoning the presidential ticket to a particular zone, the southeast should be the one to be picked as it is the only region yet to produce the President for the country.

“Let it be clear that what the PDP did at their last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting was not zoning, it was deception.

“Zoning is among the six Geo-Political Zones, not between North and South. Rotation is between North and South. Presidential power is in the south now, not in the north, so the issue of rotation does not arise.

“If all the parties are serious in zoning ... of the President to a Geo-Political Zone in the interest of equity, justice, and fairness, let APC, PDP, ADC, LP and every other party zone it to the South-East because South-East is the only Geo-Political Zone in the South that has not produced the President.

“This was what happened in 1999 when all the political parties zoned the presidential ticket to South-West and produced only Yoruba presidential candidates.

“Without this arrangement, any opposition party that falls into this monkey trick, formulated by the G-5 members of the PDP to zone the ticket to Tinubu, is as dead as the PDP,” he wrote in a statement via his 𝕏 account.

How To Defeat Tinubu

Okonkwo stated that the only way for any party to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 polls is to allow every interested Nigerian from any region to contest a free and fair primary election so the best candidate can face Tinubu in the presidential election.

“The only strategy by any party willing to win Tinubu in 2027 is to allow a free, fair, and transparent presidential primary election among every Nigerian citizen interested to run from any part of the country, preferably from a Geo-Political Zone that has not produced a President since 1999 to recruit the best candidate to confront Tinubu, win him, and rebuild Nigeria from the ruins of Tinubu’s maladministration,” he concluded.
