THE people of Kano and Kaduna states in North-West Nigeria have experienced a tragic event as no less than 25 people have died in a fatal accident involving a trailer at Dangwauro Flyover along Kano – Zaria Road.

The road crash led to the loss of 25 lives and left 53 others injured.

The incident, which occurred at 3:30 am, was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command.

The crash was said to have been caused by a trailer, registered as KMC 311 ZB, losing control due to overspeeding.

The trailer, which carried 90 individuals onboard crashed, resulting in significant casualties and injuries, with only 12 survivors.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Ibrahim Abdullahi, indicated that preliminary investigations pointed to the driver’s loss of control due to overspeeding as the probable cause of the crash.

The FRSC, in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other emergency response agencies, immediately initiated rescue operations.

Various items, including six motorcycles, 10 mobile phones, animals (rams and goats), maize, and a sum of four thousand naira, were recovered from the scene and are currently in police custody.

All victims were swiftly taken to the Murtala Specialist Hospital Kano for urgent medical attention.

The FRSC noted that transporting animals, goods, and human beings concurrently is an unsafe practice that endangers lives and contravenes traffic regulations designed to ensure road safety.

The FRSC also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws and regulations to prevent similar tragedies on Nigerian roads.
