A tragic incident has shocked the Emndeni Extension 2 community in Soweto, where 27-year-old Micaela Goeieman was allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend, Thabiso Lethabo, in the presence of their 6-month-old baby.
The fatal shooting reportedly occurred on June 4, 2025, following a heated argument between the couple. According to advocacy group Women For Change, Lethabo, 34, is said to have shot Micaela in the head inside their home before calling the police and allegedly confessing to the murder upon their arrival. He was arrested at the scene.
Micaela was laid to rest on Saturday, June 14. She leaves behind two children—a 6-month-old baby and a 7-year-old child.
In a statement released on Monday, June 16, Women For Change expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the killing.
“Micaela leaves behind her 6-month-old baby and 7-year-old child. We are heartbroken over the loss of such a beautiful soul. Another sister was murdered. How many more until we declare GBV and femicide a National Disaster,” the group stated.
