Residents of Obolo Ebubu-Eleme in Rivers State were thrown into panic when a large water tank belonging to the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) suddenly collapsed, sending a rush of water into nearby houses.
The incident caused extensive flooding and damage to properties. Assessments are still ongoing to determine the full extent of the destruction and whether any injuries were recorded.
The development has raised concern among community members, who are questioning the safety and management of HYPREP’s infrastructure in the area. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the collapse.
