Some terrorists have been killed while attending a wedding ceremony in Zamfara State, the Nigerian Military has said.
The terrorists were killed during a precision airstrike by the Air Component of the Joint Task Force Operation Fasin Yamma (OPFY) on August 4.
Captain David Adewusi, the spokesperson for the OPFY in a statement on Thursday said the terrorists were targeted at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe local government area of the state.
According to Adewusi, the airstrike was conducted on the basis of intelligence reports gathered over the terrorists’ activities within the Faskari and Kankara axes in Katsina State, as well as various parts of Zamfara.
He added that while many of the terrorists died during the operation, others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Adewusi also stated that ground troops from 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of OPFY launched a follow-up operation on August 5, following the raid on the terrorists.
He added that the troops successfully repelled an ambush en route to Yankuzo Village, where injured terrorists were reportedly taken for treatment.
He said that four persons suspected of being collaborators with the criminals from Kunchin Kalgo Village in Tsafe LGA were also critically injured.
“Operation Fasin Yamma remains committed to restoring peace and security across Zamfara and the wider North West region,” Adewusi said.
