WATCH THE VIDEO HERE AT least 300 trucks from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) are currently stationed at the Dangote Refinery in preparation for petrol loading, which is scheduled to begin tomorrow. This was confirmed by NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye in a video shared on his X handle today. He mentioned that by this afternoon, NNPCL had already deployed over 100 trucks, with many more on the way. Zacch Adedeji, a member of the Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), yesterday announced that the first batch of petrol loading from the Dangote Refinery will commence today, September 15. During a press briefing, Adedeji also stated that starting from October 1, NNPCL will begin supplying approximately 385,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil to the Dangote Refinery, with payments made in Naira. “All agreements have been finalized, and the loading of the first batch of PMS from the Dangote Refinery will begin on Sunday, September 15,” Adedeji said. He further explained that in return, the Dangote Refinery will supply petrol and diesel of equivalent value to the domestic market, all to be paid for in Naira. The committee also agreed that the refinery will sell diesel in Naira to any interested buyers, while petrol will be exclusively sold to NNPCL, which will then distribute it to various marketers. All related regulatory costs will also be paid in Naira. This agreement is expected to alleviate the country’s severe petrol shortage and potentially reduce the rising prices.
