Body of a 31-year-old man, who deliberately jumped into a domestic well on Sunday has been recovered in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
It was gathered that the deceased, identified as Abdullateef, had made repeated attempts since the previous day to take his own life.
The Head, Media and Publicity of the state Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, who confirmed the development, said that the Fire Service responded to a distress call at about 4:33am for a rescue operation at Bolarinwa Compound, Centre Igboro Area, Ilorin.
He said, “Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a 31-year-old man named Abdullateef had deliberately jumped into a domestic well.
“Findings revealed that he had reportedly been making repeated attempts since the previous day, expressing intentions of taking his own life.
“Sadly, he made the final attempt while other occupants were asleep, leaving no one available to intervene, resulting in his demise.
“Firefighters conducted a professional recovery operation, and his lifeless body was retrieved from the well and subsequently handed over to the head of the family, Alhaji Bolarinwa.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, expressed sadness over the tragic incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the Bolarinwa family.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and attentive to individuals exhibiting signs of distress or suicidal tendencies, emphasising that early intervention and close monitoring could prevent such unforeseen tragedies.
“The Kwara State Fire Service remains committed to safeguarding lives and promoting community safety across the state,” he concluded.
