36 Cows Die After Eating Garden Eggs – Gov Mutfwang Orders Investigation

The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has ordered an investigation into the cause of death of cows after eating garden eggs.

Naijaonpoint reports that about 36 cows died at Zanwar community, in Bassa local government area, on Wednesday.

The Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), in Bassa, Ya’u Idris, said the incident occurred while the cattle were grazing.

Recall that at least 52 residents of Kwall community were killed by herdsmen last Sunday night. The incident occurred two weeks after five communities in Bokkos were invaded by herdsmen, leading to the death of 52 persons.

The Miyyatti Allah leader told Premium Times that the cows died after eating garden eggs, alleged to be poisoned and scattered across the grazing areas around Tafi Gana junction of Bassa Council Area.

Plateau Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, said the government has ordered an investigation into the poisoning incident.

Our attention has been drawn to reports circulating on social media, particularly from the GAFDAN Media Team, concerning the alleged poisoning of 36 cows belonging to one Mallam Samaila Nuhu on April 16, 2025.

“In line with Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s commitment to justice, transparency, and peaceful coexistence among all residents of Plateau State, the Ministry of Livestock Development, Veterinary Services and Fisheries has been directed to immediately conduct a thorough investigation.

“The government remains committed to promoting peaceful cohabitation, inclusive dialogue, and sustainable solutions to long-standing issues related to land use and grazing. We appeal to all stakeholders to avoid inflammatory statements and allow due process to take its course,” she said.
